Guatemala, 2013

A team of GlobalFire volunteers travelled to Guatemala in September of 2013 to train and equip Firefighters in the town of Retalhuleu.  As with many Guatemalan fire departments, this one was dangerously under equipped.  The aim of GlobalFire’s deployment was to provide this department with donated Canadian bunker gear, first aid supplies and other equipment that would aid in keeping the department safe while battling blazes.  Additionally, GlobalFire’s team ran a training program.  This multi day course focused on several essential skills including: upper floor emergency egress (ladder bails and hose slide; wire entanglement; SCBA low profile escapes; SCBA reduced profile escapes; window hang; SCBA confidence maze; and fire fighter rescue and rapid intervention training.  There was also a classroom component that went over theoretical basics.
