Canada 2022

Fires and carbon monoxide poisoning can be fatal, especially at night when people are sleeping. Smoke and carbon monoxide won’t necessarily wake you up and the fumes may actually put you into a deeper sleep. For this reason, it is mandatory for all homes in Ontario to have smoke alarms on every level, outside all sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide alarms are mandatory in all homes with fuel burning appliances, fireplaces and attached garages. Although these alarms are mandatory, it is important for residents to ensure that the alarms are in good working order and that they are connected and have fresh batteries.

GlobalFire received a donation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and teamed up with Oshawa Fire Services to improve public safety in Oshawa. On December 8, 2022, active, retired and student firefighters went door to door distributing the detectors and educating community members on proper use and maintenance.

In total they distributed:

  • 34 Carbon Monoxide Detectors

  • 90 Smoke Detectors

  • 109 Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Detectors
