Togo 2024

Togo is one of the smallest countries in West Africa with a population of only 8.6 million people. Widespread poverty, high population growth, land degradation, and a deteriorating security situation have all contributed to the country's low-income economy. Firefighting in Togo faces significant challenges due to limited resources and outdated equipment. Many communities lack even basic firefighting tools, which severely hampers their ability to respond to fires effectively. This has led to devastating losses of life and property, particularly in rural areas where the infrastructure is minimal.

GlobalFire teamed up with the Centre d’entraide et de Developpement Social-Canada to send a donation of firefighting gear including hundreds of bunker suits, boots, helmets and SCBA to Togo. The equipment was generously donated by fire departments in Ontario as they were replacing it with new equipment. GlobalMedic stored the equipment, prepared the shipment and included a donation of 864 Family Emergency Kits containing Household Water Purification Units, hygiene supplies and solar lights.

A handover ceremony took place on December 6th, 2024 where the the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection expressed gratitude, saying "This donation will strengthen the equipment of the firefighters of the fire brigade in order to be much more effective in their various interventions."
